Kate Murdoch's Artist Statement and Bio

Artist Statement: Kate Murdoch works predominantly in the medium of assemblage, collage and installation. Her work centres around a lifelong passion for collecting. Found objects, images and other materials, mostly from the everyday and dating from the last century, are modified, transformed or placed together so that they retain a sense of their original function, but also assume new meaning. Work presented for 'Pushing the Boat Out' reflects Murdoch's interest in objects as clear indicators of the passage of time. Steeped in social and political history, the selected images and objects open up opportunities for personal and political discussion, particularly around issues of class, privilege and value and worth. Wider themes of loss and remembrance are also explored, reflecting Murdoch's fascination with the permanence of objects versus the fragility of human existence.
Biog: Kate Murdoch is an artist living and working in London. Murdoch has exhibited as part of the Whitstable Biennale, Deptford X Arts Festival, Frieze Art Fair, and at galleries including Transition, Firstsite, WW Gallery and APT. Murdoch was awarded the Shape Open Prize in 2016 and her award winning work, selected by Yinka Shonibare, is in the Shape permanent collection.

Corin Johnson Artist's Statement and Bio

Short Bio Born in 1969 , artist Corin Johnson began sculpting soon after leaving school. As well as working with a variety of artists he worked as a sculptor / carvers apprentice and later attended Art School in Kennington, and through going to the art school he met many inspiring people including the art critic David Sylvester and practicing artists such as Euan Uglow , Craigie Atchison and Peter Snow who encouraged him and championed his work. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Tate modern , Vigo gallery, the London art fair , Pangolin ,The SNOW gallery, the Arts centre in Melbourne ( the show travelled to Sydney and Canberra ) etc and has been featured in publications and most of the national News papers ( including the Times and the Sun ).
